How nonresidents hunt upland birds in New Mexico
Nonresidents buy the nonresident game-hunting license plus the habitat management and access validation over the counter (and the habitat stamp on Forest Service or BLM land). New Mexico is one of the few states with four quail species, including Montezuma quail in the southwest mountains.
Quail Nov. 15, 2026 - Feb. 15, 2027; dusky grouse Sept. 1 - Dec. 31; pheasant Dec. 10-13, 2026.
