How nonresidents hunt upland birds in Maryland
Nonresidents buy the nonresident hunting license (or the 3-day waterfowl and small game license) over the counter. Upland hunting is limited: grouse in the western mountains, quail in parts of the state, and few pheasants. Sunday hunting is allowed in many counties.
Ruffed grouse Oct. 3 - Dec. 31, 2026; pheasant Nov. 7 - Feb. 28, 2027; quail Nov. 7 - Jan. 15 (closed in Garrett and Allegany counties).
