How nonresidents hunt upland birds in Massachusetts
Nonresidents buy a nonresident small game or big game license over the counter, plus the pheasant/quail permit (required for hunters 15 and older). MassWildlife stocks pheasants on many wildlife management areas. No Sunday hunting; pheasant hunting closes during shotgun deer season.
Pheasant and quail Oct. 17 - Dec. 31, 2026; ruffed grouse Oct. 17 - Nov. 28.
