How nonresidents hunt upland birds in Idaho

Nonresidents buy a nonresident hunting or small game license (annual or 3-day) over the counter, but nonresident licenses aren't valid for the first five days of pheasant season, so nonresidents start pheasants Oct. 20. Sharp-tailed grouse need a permit validation; release sites need an upland game bird permit.

Forest grouse Aug. 30, 2026 - Dec. 31 (Jan. 31 in the north); chukar, gray partridge and quail Sept. 15 - Jan. 31; pheasant Oct. 15 (residents) / Oct. 20 (nonresidents) - Dec. 31, youth Oct. 8-14; sharp-tailed grouse Oct. 1 - Nov. 8.
